The current one dollar bill features President George Washington. His portrait has been on the obverse side of the dollar bill for many years.

2009 One Dollar Bill

George Washington was the 1st president of the United States. Born in 1732, he was one of the founding fathers of the United States. Washington served as president from 1789-1797. He is best known for leading America through the Revolutionary War.

Early One Dollar Bills

George Washington was not the only person ever featured on a one dollar bill. Some of the early series featured Treasury Secretary Salmon P. Chase, First Lady Martha Washington, and politician Edwin M. Stanton.

George Washington was also featured on many of the earlier dollar bills. He was first seen on the 1869 series $1 legal tender notes.
