The motto "E ho mai ka 'ike" is inscribed on the coin. This is a Hawaiian phrase that translates to "granting the wisdom".
Edith Kanaka'ole, also known as Aunty Edith, was a Hawaiian dancer, teacher, and chanter. She was a custodian of native Hawaiian culture.
