These Lincoln pennies are also known as Shield pennies. This is because the design on the reverse side of the coin features the Union shield.

The US minted the 2019 penny with no mint mark and also the 2019 D penny, 2019 S proof penny, 2019 W penny, 2019 W proof penny, and 2019 W reverse proof penny. The mint mark, when present, can be found on the obverse side of the coin below the date.

This was the first year that the W mint mark ever appeared on a penny. Pennies with the W mint mark were only issued as bonuses in coin sets. The 2019 W penny was included as a bonus in the 2019 uncirculated coin set. The 2019 W proof penny was included as a bonus in the 2019 proof set. Lastly the 2019 W reverse proof penny was included as a bonus in the 2019 silver proof set.

Value

Most 2019 pennies in circulated condition are only worth their face value of $0.01. These coins can only sell for a premium in uncirculated condition.

The 2019 penny with no mint mark and the 2019 D penny are each worth around $0.30 in uncirculated condition with an MS 65 grade.

The 2019 S proof penny is worth around $5 in PR 65 condition.

The 2019 W penny is worth around $10 in uncirculated condition with an MS 65 grade.

The 2019 W proof penny and 2019 W reverse proof penny are each worth around $10 in PR 65 condition.

Grading System

MS 65 gem uncirculated- There is strong luster and eye appeal. A few light contact marks may be present but they are barely noticeable.

PR 65 proof- There are no flaws to this coin. A few blemishes may be present.
