2011 Vicksburg Quarter

Design

On the reverse side of the coin the design shows the Union's U.S.S. Cairo boat on the Yazoo River. This ship was sunk by a mine and its remains are located at Vicksburg National Military Park.

Vicksburg National Military Park is a park that preserves the area of the Battle of Vicksburg that was fought during the Civil War. Located in Vicksburg, Mississippi, the total area of the park is 1,852 acres and it includes the Vicksburg National Cemetery.

Coin Information

These coins are part of the America the Beautiful quarters program.

The US minted different series of the Vicksburg quarter. There is the 2011 P quarter, 2011 D quarter, 2011 S proof quarter and 2011 S silver proof quarter.

Proof coins are essentially coins that have more detail. They are minted on special planchets and it takes longer to produce them. They are specifically made for collectors so you won't find any in your spare change.

Note: The mint mark can be found on the obverse side of each coin under the "IN GOD WE TRUST" motto.

Value

The value will depend on the series and the coin's condition. Below we will examine the value for each series.

Clad Quarters

The standard 2011 Vicksburg clad quarters in circulated condition are only worth their face value of $0.25. These coins only sell for a premium in the higher condition grades.

Both the 2011 P Vicksburg quarter and 2011 D Vicksburg quarter are each worth around $0.45 in about uncirculated condition. The value is around $0.50 in uncirculated condition with an MS 63 grade. Uncirculated coins with a grade of MS 65 can sell for around $1.

The 2011 S proof Vicksburg quarter is worth around $3 in PR 65 condition.

Silver Proof Quarter

This coin is worth at least its weight in silver. The silver melt value for this coin is $3.29 as of February 19, 2020. This melt value is calculated from the current silver spot price of $18.20 per ounce.

The 2011 S silver proof Vicksburg quarter is worth around $8 in PR 65 condition.

Grading System

About uncirculated- There is a slight trace of wear on the high points of the design. Half of the coin's mint luster is still intact.

MS 63 choice uncirculated- In the major focal areas there are some blemishes or contact marks. The coin's luster might not be as prominent.

MS 65 gem uncirculated- There is strong luster and eye appeal. A few light contact marks may be present but they are barely noticeable.

PR 65 proof- There are no flaws to this coin. A few blemishes may be present.
