What Is a Stand Alone Serial Number?

A stand alone serial number contains one digit that is preceded and followed by all zeros. For example, 04000000 or 00008000. These numbers are rare and they can sell for a premium above face value.

Stand alone serial numbers are similar to trailing zeros serial numbers. The trailing zeros serial numbers contain one digit followed by all zeros. For example, 70000000. Trailing zeros serial numbers are more valuable.

Value

The values listed below relate to low-denomination bills. Higher denomination bills demand less of a premium because in most cases it would make more sense to spend or deposit the bill.

Most stand alone serial number bills in circulated condition will be worth close to face value. Bills in uncirculated condition can sell for a premium.

Most stand alone serial number bills in uncirculated condition are worth over $125.
