Just select the weight type and purity. Then enter your Platinum's weight and click the "calculate" button. The calculator subtracts the weight of the "non-platinum" part of the alloy, then converts the remainder to troy ounces and multiplies the troy ounces times the spot price entered.
You can enter the weight in Micrograms, Milligrams Grains, Pennyweights, Grams, Ounces, Troy Ounces, Troy Pounds, Pounds, Kilo's, Metric Tons, Taels (Hong Kong) and Tolas (India).
Platinum Melt Value Calculator
Platinum is the heaviest of the precious metals, weighing almost twice as much as karat gold. Ten tons of ore must be mined to produce a single ounce of platinum and it takes months to process the platinum ore into pure platinum. In the United States, most platinum jewelry contains either 90% or 95% pure platinum. By comparison, 18 karat gold is 75% pure and 14 karat is 58.33% pure gold. Most of the platinum used in jewelry is composed of 90% platinum and 10% iridium or 5% ruthenium, which makes it much harder than pure platinum.
